Hi everyone, I've forgotten a book i read a long time ago. I read it in Canada in english. It was a romance and fantasy novel that included a girl named Mage and her boyfriend named Adam. Mage had magical abilities. I believe the book was also a trilogy.

A few scenes I remember are:
A scene where she got angry and used her magic to roll a tire.

A scene where she wanted to have sex with him in a hotel but he wanted to wait for a better place to do it

(SPOILERS)
Near the end of the book Adam dies. (I dont really remember whether this happened in it or not but i think she was able to see Adam as a ghost after he died).

If anyone can remember the title that would be so helpful. Thanks!

I seem to recall that said author was a woman, and the series as fairly recent/ongoing. The Species Hat of these mice was a compulsion to imprint religiously--the way that ducklings will imprint filially upon the first living creature they see--on whatever might happen to awe them; I recall objects of worship including a cake, an oak tree, and a chicken (I imagine the last was a short-lived denomination, to judge by various YouTube farming videos.)

The most fortunate bunch chose the protagonist and her family--who were prepared to deal with and protect eccentric sapient critters--as their pantheon.

ETA: [personal profile] nocowardsoul has identified the source as Seanan McGuire's InCryptid series.

A few years ago--probably three or four years, and I think they were fairly newish, although I could be wrong--I read a series of books that I would classify as contemporary fantasy. I believe there were four of them, at least at the time, and each one centered around a different city. One was probably New York (because they always are) and I think one might have been Venice, because part of the plot was about finding whatever item they needed under the water. I think each book also featured different characters, but I could be wrong about that.

The overarching plot of the series was that each city needed...a guardian, or basically a person that represented or watched over the city, and the books were the stories of how each person discovered that that's who they were and what they had to do to protect their city.

I apologize for the extremely vague details, and hope someone has a clue!

EDIT: OK, I've been searching for these books for weeks now, but after reading the comment below I tried a couple of different terms, and found them! It's the Hidden Cities series by Tim Lebbon and Christopher Golden. The cities were London, New Orleans, Venice, and Boston, and the guardians are actually called "Oracles". Probably would have made the search way easier if I could have remembered that. :)

I read a book a couple of years ago (2016-ish) and cant remember the title for the life of me.

It was about a girl whose younger brother goes missing during her childhood. He was a bright boy and a bit strange, always drawing something (I think it was a map or a maze)
The book follows her through several stages of her life, from the 1970s/80s in her childhood to an imagined near future when she is a grandmother.

I cant remember any characters names or even much of the plot but a few scenes and details stick out.

She runs away from home and gets a job picking fruit at a farm. There's a boy on a bike who she has a romantic link with, they sleep in a barn one night.

There's a moment where she sees a woman fishing on a dock by a canal and she draws something in the dust, it becomes significant much later in the book when some time travel elements come into play.

She witnesses a horrible double murder but gets her memory wiped.

There's a secret society that was involved in the vanishing of her brother. I think her actual brother died very early on and one of its members came to use his body.

she gets married to bike boy and they have children who have children.

In the closing chapters she's raising her grandchildren in a dystopian Ireland where Global resources are running out and society has regressed. the secret society save the children but the whole think is pretty bleak.

I read it in Australia but I think it's set in the UK. I always thought it was Labyrinth by Kate Mosse but having recently got that book and read it i realised its completely different and I'm now very confused.
Please Help.

Hello, I read this book over a decade ago, and can't remember the title or author. I do, however, remember a good amount of the plot:

The book begins with a normal guy who is working at a crummy job for a jerk boss. He has a sister, and one day, there's a "magic apocalypse" where power is lost everywhere. People begin morphing into fantasy creatures (for example, his sister becomes like a fairy and his boss like a dragon/demon). I remember that the main character fights his boss before leaving the city with his sister.

A big point is that crystals are now the source of power and at one point, they discover that by tying in crystals to machinery, they can make it run again. There's also several other characters, and some people in a mining town begin to transform into dwarf-like creatures. The characters also find out that the cause of all this was an experiment done by a group of scientists.

*I actually found this about 5 minutes after posting this! I got lucky, I guess! If anyone is interested, the series is called Magic Time, and the main author is Marc Scott Zicree.

I totally forget the name of the book or who the author is.

A few pieces I remember:
• it was a series
• the main character hunted dragons from the past that are committing crimes?
• there was 1 dragon who was pure white who liked keeping things and his hoard clean
• dragons has human and dragon forms
• it takes place in the modern day
• each dragon has a specific weakness

Hi everyone! I'm trying to recall the name of a dark fantasy series I read as a teen in the 90s, but I'm pretty sure the books had been around a while at that point. The protagonist in the first book was a male child, and I have very vivid recollections in that book of his being chased by a dark figure on a horse. I recall some sort of time-travel like elements, and at one point he escapes through a hidden door in a fireplace I think. I really thought the series title had the word "Dark" in it, and I feel like "Time" might have also been in there somewhere, maybe as a title word in the book but not the series, but I've been unable to find anything in my google searches. Any suggestions of titles to consider would be appreciated!

So I read this book a while ago back it 7th or 8th grade, it was about this demonic carnival that they got sucked into. The book starts with these group of teenagers at the local carnival and I remember the main character has a younger brother who had a hat that had the middle finger and the younger brother loved the hat. The only other major part of the book I remember is while in the demonic carnival the main character finds himself in this mirror maze, where if you walk into a mirror you actually walk through it and the mirror changes you and if you walk through too many you bring to turn into a hideous monster. Which that what happens to his girlfriend. That's really all I can remember besides I think the book was call Thrill Ride, but I can't find anything like it online. Hope someone can help me out!

My friend read this book when he was a kid, maybe 30-35 years ago (or so).

A boy (teenager or younger) is dared to do something--perhaps an act of vandalism--to an old "scary" house. The man living there catches him, and somehow gets him to come back the next day. The man gives the boy a box to take home. When he gets it home, he messes with it, and that leaves some kind of black ink-like substance on his hands/fingers. When he tries to get the stuff off, it just spreads to everything he touches. He's worried about getting in trouble when his parents get home, but when they do, they don't see the mess.

The kid goes back to the man and the man tells him that now his mind is open to some kind of mental training the man intends to put him through. The kid learns to open doors in people's minds. Behind the mind door of the school bully, he sees a dying baby (meaning something like that the bully's inner self was a dying baby.) Behind his dad's mind door, he sees a teenager that never grew up.

This is as much as my friend revealed about the book. I would love to find this for him and make a surprise gift of it, as it was an important book to him when he was a kid. Thank you muchly for your time!

Another repost from LiveJournal:

think this book was published between Fall 2005 and Spring 2010, as I recall that the book was displayed prominently in the high school library; normally only new releases were displayed like this if I remember right. The main character's mother had escaped this pack of wolf-creatures (I think?) where she had been kept captive. The mother had been a captive for her whole remembered life before escaping, and it was a hellish memory for her. After escaping, she has to learn how to live in normal society, and she raises her daughter constantly on the move to avoid the pack recapturing them. The daughter was captured by that same pack as a teenager. I seem to recall there was a crumbling castle setting where the creatures lived, but it was a modern setting. In some sort of ritualistic thing, she had swirls painted on her skin, and one of the pack is supposed to take her as a mate. I distinctly remember a picture in the book depicting her with the swirls painted on her skin. I am pretty sure the pack's culture is declining, and they somehow "need" the girl in order to survive.  I think there was some kind of telepathy or empathy thing involved, too.

I've asked everyone and I'm starting to feel like I imagined this book. It would have been written about the 80's. It's a children's book about a creature that hatches from and egg and looks like a floppy dragon. I think his name was thing but I'm not sure about that. I loved the book but now no-one else remembers it existed!
