Hello, kind friends!

I am looking for a book that I read in hardcopy in my childhood (aka, the early 1990's) which was probably written 1990's or earlier. I have no recollections of the cover or the age of the book at the time.

Setting: American revolutionary war and preceding years, I think in New England.

Genre: historical fiction - probably aimed at older children, I think, but it might have just been from an older style of polite writing that did not mention sex or upsetting things in literature. (I read a lot of things as a child that I was probably not supposed to have read. :)

Main character: a young man who we follow from a poor childhood to adulthood. He's educated in a public (I think) single room schoolhouse with a single teacher. He's a mathematics and accounting genius from an early age, and at one point I believe there's a conflict with his schoolmaster who does not believe a student as dumb as him could be working out complicated mathematical problems without being instructed in how to do it. (He's not particularly un-intelligent, but he's Very Gifted in math and not much interested in other elements of education, and the character might be read as autistic to modern readers.)

Detailed scenes:
- conflict with his school master over math, but the boy's mathematical talents are later recognized and he's trained (apprenticed?) to someone in trade involving sailing ships or a port. The school room uses slate and, I think, lead pencils to write on them rather than chalk?

-at one point, a mentor he admires gives him a book to study on mathematics (Maaaybe Isaac Newton's Principia Mathematica, not sure) and the boy is embarrassed bc he cannot read Latin, but when he confesses the mentor arranges for him to have lessons.

-scene on a ship in a battle where he has to hide in the gunpowder room and calmly reads a book until the battle is over, causing people to exclaim that, of course, he'd be reading completely calmly in the powder room of a ship under fire, of course. The ship might be smuggling goods, not sure.

-There's a scene when he's an adult where, at a dinner party, his host asks him to solve a complicated mathematical question regarding compound interest over time bc the host would like to make sure that he has not been cheated by a bank or business partner. The host lays the details out, but says, Don't worry about solving it now, enjoy your tea, I'll give you some time with it later. But the main character thinks about it and comes back with a detailed answer without using any writing materials in a very short amount of time.

-This was a book I read on my own, from my school or classroom library, not something that was assigned

I remember reading the first in a small book series in the nineties. It was about a group of four or five teens who worked at, I believe, a radio station. One was a cliched rich girl and the other was a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. I think, but am not completely certain, that his name was "Hero".

If anyone could put a name to this book series I would be so, so grateful!

bear with me here, cause I have very limited info! I read a book when I was a pre-teen (between 2001-2005, probably) with a female protagonist who, from what I can remember, lived with a lot of other girls, who she doesn't get on with. there's a line in the book about her dying her hair 'dandelion fluff/fuzz white/blonde' and leaving her roots brown to give them something to talk about. I believe there's a reference in there to a romantic novel, of some kind, but that's about all I can remember! really hope someone can help me cause this has been bugging me for years...

I remember one christmas in the mid to late 90s asking for Animorphs books and nothing else. I ended up getting books about kids who could turn into things instead of animals. I ended up throwing them out, but recently remembered this event, but not the name of the books. I never read them as I was so disappointed, so I don't havea lot to go on, and google has been no help.

So I read this book early 2000s when I was in high school and remember loving it. Here are some details I think I remember, hope someone can help.

1. I think it's an apocalypse/post-apocalypse/sci-fi/sci-fi horror themed with a strong focus on female protagonist.

2. The catastrophe on earth (think it was a series of natural diasters and combination of gases?) has killed a lot of people but most importantly to the plot, it has pretty much knocked out modern technology and modern conveniences.

3. I remember the heroine best and her along with several other characters grow scars but through their actions the scars eventually reveal a face fitting their character.

4. Another prominent plot line was that some of the characters have visions which is what leads their journey particularly the girl who is portrayed as kind and she has a band of others travelling with.

5. The story is at times brutal with survival of the fittest emphasised and the stronger but cruel of the remaining population hunting others.

6. There is also a male protagonist who also has visions of the heroine.

7. A point I remember vividly is when her scar falls away and her true face is revealed she is beautiful with flowing hair of multiple hues. I remember how the highlights in her hair was vividly described.

8. I think there may be something about a printing press or trying to restore means of communication (not sure if this is ftom that story or something else I was reading at the time?)

I hope someone can recognise this work. It's been plaguing my memories for years and no Google search has yielded any results.

Help me, please!

I read this book in the mid-early 2000's and cannot remember the title or author. I remember that it was about a teenager who moves and lives in a little bungalow/shack over the water and there is a surfer who sleeps on her roof because he is homeless. They are pretty close in age. They befriend each other and later they realize that he is her long-lost brother who was kidnapped when they were young. It mentions a red ball from their childhood, which is one of his only childhood memories. This girl also dates a super wealthy boy from across the pier and one of her friends struggles with anorexia.

I know that all makes no sense, which is why I can't find it.

Help me figure this out PLEASE!

Hi everyone,

so I read this book few years ago and can't remember the author or title. It's plot was about a teen author who wrote a really popular novel series and her books got made in to a movie or tv show. This girl writes her book under a false name and add a photo she found from internet as the picture of the author. And when the movie crew decides to film the novel in her village so that she could oversee it, she pays someone else to pretend like her and she as an assistant.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Edit: I remembered something else. One of the character's(author or decoy, i cant remember exactly) name was veronica

It's driving me crazy I can't think of this series! I'm pretty sure it's a 90s series though maybe very early 2000. It was a series I think 5 or 6 books in total, but could have been more. Pretty sure I bought them from Scholastics.

Anyways, what I can remember of this series, is various children of varying ages. I know, not very helpful.

I do remember one of them was with a girl and her horse.

This is not a lot to go on, I know, and I apologize, but will be forever grateful if there's an answer!

The book I'm looking for is something I read maybe 8 or so years ago. I believe that the book was an adult novel as it was something I got from my mother's bookshelf and had it a pretty "heavy" sex scene in it as I recall, so I don't believe it was something I got from school, being about 13 at the time.

What I can remember from the plot:
A single man gets custody of his teenage son after the boy's mother dies. If I recall correctly this is either the first time they're meeting or the first time in a long while. The boy doesn't know his father at all and thinks him odd, mostly because of his allergy to the sun. Strange things are going on around town like people going missing and being murdered and I suppose there are some Satanic aspects to these incidents because it's rumored around town that it's a vampire devil person or whatnot. The boy believes that his father is responsible and is a vampire, due to the sun allergy and being slightly odd. I can't remember if his father had done anything specific to make his son think he's a vampire or a killer. I believe the boy is just angry, sad, and dislikes his father a great deal for being absent. Anyway, the father teams up with a woman (love interest) and I believe that they are looking into some of the things going on around town. I don't remember anything about the woman or why the two of them are investigating together or at all, but I do remember he's spending time with this woman. The boy meets a girl and I don't remember much about her except that she wears different colored tights or something like that and gives the boy half of her sandwich when they meet. It turns out that the killings and whatnot have been done by a group of "satanic gothy" type teens who are being manipulated by a man. Now, I can't recall if this man who is doing the manipulating is an actual vampire or just a creep. I do remember that the group of teens kidnap the girl that the boy had become friends with because she's a virgin and they're going to sacrifice her or something and the evil man is going to drink her blood. The boy is injured, I believe it's his ankle that gets broken, and he's being held hostage and during this time I believe he sees his dead mother's ghost or something and talks to her.

That's all I can recall about the book, sorry if it's a bit long winded but I wanted to include as much as I could remember. Hope someone can help (:

So I read this book a while ago back it 7th or 8th grade, it was about this demonic carnival that they got sucked into. The book starts with these group of teenagers at the local carnival and I remember the main character has a younger brother who had a hat that had the middle finger and the younger brother loved the hat. The only other major part of the book I remember is while in the demonic carnival the main character finds himself in this mirror maze, where if you walk into a mirror you actually walk through it and the mirror changes you and if you walk through too many you bring to turn into a hideous monster. Which that what happens to his girlfriend. That's really all I can remember besides I think the book was call Thrill Ride, but I can't find anything like it online. Hope someone can help me out!

I've been searching for a book for years with no results. It is about a teenage boy who hitchhikes to live with his uncle, who works in a mine and is scarred from an accident that killed his brother, the boy's dad. They start their relationship off very rocky but the boy is so kind that he starts to break down his uncle's walls and they form a close relationship. Please help me!

This was a series I believe I read in the early(?) 90's about 4 girls who maybe were already friends and went to college together, or maybe some of them already knew each other? I'm pretty sure there was nothing paranormal or anything about the books, just basically the series was kind of a teen soap opera type deal with the girls in college. Lots of friend and girl drama.

I think each book may have been told from a different girls' perspective or was about one girl at a time. I know at least one was in a sorority or pledging and it caused drama.

I believe I was getting them via Scholastic book club, but not sure.

ive tried searching this everywhere, basically it's a book where a boy (teenager?) is trapped in some town, as in when he tries to leave it and run away no matter how far he runs he's still in the town. When he tries to run there some significance about how the trees looked the same or something or they all looked identical so he would get lost in the forest but still be in the town? Then, at some point, he uses a computer in a public library or something and has people waiting on him maybe, to search up like a name or a thing or something. This alerts like the government or some agency that it has been searched so they make a chat pop up on his screen asking like who he is and why he searched that, and he responds also asking "who r u". They figure this means he is a teenager since he used r and u. I think this happened at the end of the book? There might have been someone in the town trying to make him stay too, and there was something evil about the town? Thats about all i remember but its driving me crazy! anything helps thanks!
