Forgotten the title & author of a young adult fantasy book (series maybe?).

Read the book(s) about 4-6 years ago. Orphan teenage girl working as a servant in a middle age-ish kingdom. Kidnapped by mythical people (elf/fairy/fae types) and it is revealed she is important and has a special power/ability which she never knew about. Sarcastic & handsome prince which she eventually falls for.

I know it sound generically YA... but two things I remember distinctly is the fact she was terrified of becoming a changeling and I think it ends with a maze/realm at the end of the book.

(PS. It's not "Red Queen" or "Shadow & Bone")

Hello! I have been searching for the title of a novel I read for a book report during Sixth Grade (circa. 1998-99). Of course, the book could have easily been written much earlier than this time period.

My memory is hazy in terms of what the novel was actually about, but I remember one scene quite clearly. There is a young girl (red-headed, I believe), and she is sent into town to fetch supplies for the old woman who is taking care of her. During this time the young girl experiences her first menstrual cycle, and the older woman admonishes her for going out in public while this is happening.

I think this novel was truly just about a young girl who was trying to find herself/purpose in life. I come back to it from time to time, wishing I could re-read it to possibly gain a better perspective now that I'm older.

The story is set at a boy's boarding school. The school is not doing well financially, and might be in danger of closing. So, some of the boys come up with the idea of setting a world record for highest tower of soda cans, to get publicity for their school and save it from having to close down.

There is a girl's school across the road, and they are going on a field trip to a city, so a couple of the boys stow away on the school bus to collect soda cans. The girls manage to hide them on the way there, but when they return, the boys try to sneak out the back door of the school bus, which is an emergency door and sets off an alarm, so they have to run for it and leave the big garbage bag of soda cans behind. The girls' teacher demands an explanation, so the girls have no choice but to say they want to beat the record for highest tower of soda cans, and they end up getting the publicity instead of the boys. I don't remember how it ends.

Other details: The principal of the boys' school has a name like Mr Sturgeon or something, and the boys call him The Fish. I think one of the boys also hosts a radio program for his school?

I have paged through this book a couple of times in Barnes & Nobles. Might have been as long as 20 years ago.

It was a trade paperback horror title. The protagonist is in an underwater module (lab?) when poisonous rain falls on the surface. He comes out to a scene of death, horror and destruction.

Other things of note:

This is a conquest by alien species.

They seem to be using human women to produce half-breed monsters that they then eat? There is a really visceral scene of woman bound in barbed wire trying to to kill herself before she gives birth to such a monstrosity.

Somewhere towards the end of the story the protagonist is trapped in a pit with a zombie tiger.

I have been looking for this short story for years and still haven't had much luck. It was part of an anthology of other horror stories that I think came out in the 80's, but I am by no means sure of that.

It stars off with the main character (don't remember if it was a man or woman) being rudely awakened by a call in the early hours of the morning. They are asked to investigate a crime scene in the woods where a woman had been brutally attacked by what they assume was a pack of wolves. The main character goes to the scene and pokes around the woods for a bit before somehow stumbling across a cabin and a man who seems not quite right mentally but clearly knows more about the woman's death than he's letting on. The main character follows him into the cabin and begins to ask questions. This is where my memory goes fuzzy on me. At some point, the man ends up showing the main character several magical (or maybe alien?) artifacts. Main character, very weirded out by this point, tries to leave but the man won't let them. I think a fight/ chase scene occurs as main character tries to force their way out of this mess, although ultimately they are killed by the man, and it is heavily implies that he was the one that killed the woman. The story ends with the main character waking up in their bed, phone ringing, and being asked to investigate a possible murder scene in the woods.

It was an amazing story but I was too young when I read it to fully appreciate it, and I would love to read it again to pick up on things I probably missed! Please, PLEASE help if you can.

This is a book I read when I was probably in 3rd grade. It was about a boy who drew comics of this India Jones, action hero kind of character, except he could never draw the hands right and it was a big issue for him. I can't remember much of the middle part, but near the end, the boy's uncle, who has had no success in his play-writing endeavors, manages to write this amazing play and I think it helps the boy deal with some stuff that's been going on with his parents or his dad more specifically? But at the very very end, the boy walks up to his uncle and gives him a drawing as a gift, and the drawing is of a perfect hand. It was a really cute, heartwarming story with a lot of depth, and I really want to find it again so I can buy it for my niece! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As a side note, I have it tagged as graphic novel because the boy's comics were actually drawn out in the book, but I'd say about 70% of it was regular chapter book style.

Hi! I read this book when I was quite young and I think I remember its name but I can't find it anywhere online.

From what I can remember it was called the Shattered Mirror. The story was of a rich guy who got handicapped in an accident. He hires a female caretaker who starts living in his house. They begin to fall in love all the while she notices some supernatural activity. Later on, she finds out the house is haunted by the guy's dead fiance who moves through mirrors and tries to kill the girl.

I read this book a while back (I'm pretty sure on my Kindle but I can't remember šŸ˜…).
The book was set in a historical time and the woman was working as a fake psychic to make a living.
This man, can't recall if he's a sheriff or cowboy, but he goes and confront ts her because his mother came to her asking for his presumably dead brother.
I remember a picnic I pretty sure she ended staying with either the mother or him for some reason.

I read this book years ago and i cannot remember the name or title. I can remember vague details:

Set in America

I think it was set in the past (1950s?)

Involves a girl, mother and father moving to another city either on holiday or because their current home in their current city is not safe for them weather wise.

Involves the girl meeting an older man and becoming involved with him.

The girl dresses grown up, dressing in her mothers clothes and jewellery and makeup.

The man and girl spend time at the hotel pool

The man takes the girl for drives in his car.

Thankyou, i really want to find the title of this book to read it again

My grandmother told me about a poem she's been trying to find, and I had no luck googling for it, so I thought I'd see if anyone here recognizes it. The line she remembers is:

A fish took a notion to walk from the ocean to seek the ocean blue

Or something like that. There were maybe three verses total about what the fish did in the ocean. She read it from a book in about 1947 in her seventh grade class, but she thinks the teacher had probably been teaching it before then.

I read this book in about 2013, though I’m not sure what year it was released or the publisher. All I remember is that the cover was white and grey, like monochrome, and all you saw was a road, a blurred out figure and sort of mist/fog/blur.
The premise of it was that this teenage boy (16-18) goes out to find his missing/dead sister. He also had a brother who I believe had something to do with her disappearance. There’s a part in the story where the boy gets into a fight with two older men, and I believe that when the brother shows up? Those are about all the details I can remember, but I do remember I loved this book, and have wanted to find it with no luck for months! Any help is super appreciated!! <3

A rock star romance - the h is a university student whose friend won tickets to a rock concert and wants to take her. She has never heard of the band and is basically a concert virgin...has no idea how to dress. At the concert, lead singer invites her backstage...immediate heat. She goes home and researches the band, learns the words to all their songs, their likes and dislikes. A guy that likes her invites her to their next concert and she gets all rock-glammed up this time. Lead singer sees her in the audience and freaks out, thinking that she has played him and knew who he was all along. He's really cruel to her and takes everybody BUT her to a reception area. Turns out okay and they spend the next day or two discovering Seattle...fascinating, intimate trip up the Space Needle! I hope somebody can figure this one out!! Thanks, guys.

Hello, I read this book over a decade ago, and can't remember the title or author. I do, however, remember a good amount of the plot:

The book begins with a normal guy who is working at a crummy job for a jerk boss. He has a sister, and one day, there's a "magic apocalypse" where power is lost everywhere. People begin morphing into fantasy creatures (for example, his sister becomes like a fairy and his boss like a dragon/demon). I remember that the main character fights his boss before leaving the city with his sister.

A big point is that crystals are now the source of power and at one point, they discover that by tying in crystals to machinery, they can make it run again. There's also several other characters, and some people in a mining town begin to transform into dwarf-like creatures. The characters also find out that the cause of all this was an experiment done by a group of scientists.

*I actually found this about 5 minutes after posting this! I got lucky, I guess! If anyone is interested, the series is called Magic Time, and the main author is Marc Scott Zicree.

Sometimes in the 90s I read about a girl whose family moves to a relative's farm (possibly her aunt's?) She's not very happy about it at first because there is no pizza delivery but she enjoys seeing Queen Anne's Lace and helps a chick hatch. It was most likely published sometime during the 90s by Scholastic and possibly an Apple paperback. Thanks!

I'm trying to find a book I read around 7 to 8 years ago. I can't remember a lot about it, but the main protagonist was an orphan boy. The orphanage was kind of strange and creepy because it would be visited by these bird men or something. It's possible they were also the ones who brought the boy, I can't remember. I also can't remember what made him want to leave, but he eventually runs away from the orphanage with another boy and girl who I think were both mean to him. Again, I don't remember anything that happens until around the end of the book. There is an adult couple who convince them that they are two of the children's parents. I remember this one specific part regarding the girl: she asked the lady to brush her hair because she thought it was a mother-daughter thing (actually now I'm not sure if she asked the fake lady or her real mother later). They eventually find out these people are lying to them to harm or kill them, and they also find their real parents and I think it turns out that all three of them are actually siblings and they are all royalty. I also think the main protag kills a dragon at some point. I hope someone can identify this book!!

It was about kids with super powers. And one of them could regenerate herself. Such as a starfish regrowing and one of the kids was able to talk in any language even a machines language such as a fax machine. It is a series, so i know one the books had a silver alien face on the cover. And I believe in this book I’m not sure if it’s aliens who attacked them at their ā€œbaseā€ but they were being attacked and the girl sacrificed herself but after the explosion of the building she had a piece of her left and she regrew.

Can't remember much of this book, just that the woman was given (?) by the gov to aliens as a volunteer (not sure though if she was just abducted) as part of the peace treaty. She caught the eye of the alien king because of her violet eyes. She also kinda belly dances later in the story while pregnant. Her husband the alien king's anatomy saved him from an assasination attempt where his heart is actually on the right side instead of left. I think this was part of a series, and despite my description, the book is actually more of a romance than an erotic book. Can someone help me find the title? Pls and thanks.

Starts with a guy showing up to a house with a mom and young daughter. The daughter tells the mom they need to go with the man before the bad (?) come. This guy and the mom touch and a tattoo appears on the mom but won’t stay unless she accepts the mating. Can’t remember if it’s two factions of vampires or vampires v demons. Anyone know the name of the series? The women end up catching a virus too...a virus that only hurts their human mates

I read this paperback back in 2001 while working as an intern. It was on my borrowed desk and I was bored.

The book cover said it was made into a mini series.

It revolves around a young girl and the Mafia. The girl (I think her name was Mauve or something similar) got pregnant and was forced to have an abortion that left unable to ever have kids. She got involved in the family business after that. She blew up an entire lot of rival ice cream trucks. She stole an armored truck and buried it. She fell in love with an FBI agent that was there to take down her family. She helps them and in the end, they are together on a plane.

I know I have this books somewhere, but I'm not sure where so here is what I remember of it...

The main character is a girl and her father has always favored her sister over her because she is prettier. It is revealed throughout the story all the times that he has physically and mentally abused her. So, one day she decides to run away from home on horse and when she gets to the main market area he finds her there and tries to bring her back. She screams and these shadow creatures appear, scaring the horse and killing the dad. She runs away and then gets caught by the authorities for killing him. She is about to be put to death when a famous group of magic users show up and save her then bring her back to their secret hideout to try and teach her how to use her power. I can explain a bit more but that's those are the main parts of it.

EDIT: I have found this book with a little more research. Sorry to bother you all. The book is 'The Young Elites' by Marie Lu
