Old romance - lost

One in a million that anybody remembers this. I read a book in the 90s where the female heroine had hidden a figurine by Michelangelo as a child but didn't remember doing so. Book was set in the modern day where she fell in love with someone from the family that had owned the statue.

Probably not the book you're looking for, but the combination of female heroine and a hidden Michelangelo figurine made me think of "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler."

Well, I had never heard of that one so even if I never find the old book again at least I have a new suggestion for next year.
