the scans you saw were indeed from finder: third world, written and drawn by carla speed mcneil. the protagonist's name is jaeger and he is, shall we say, a man of many talents. also his people (well, his mother's people, i think - he's the equivalent of biracial) are kind of the comic's version of indigenous, so good call there. the finder trades are published by dark horse and i highly recommend the whole series.
